DGM intercepts van carrying 100 undocumented Haitians towards Santo Domingo

MONTECRISTI.- Interdiction units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) intercepted here a cargo truck type van inside which one hundred (100) undocumented Haitian nationals were hidden who were trying to be transferred to Santo Domingo. Following effective intelligence, surveillance, and monitoring work, and within the framework of its comprehensive migration policy, the representatives of the DGM, in the successful immigration control operation, also detained the driver of the cargo vehicle, who will be brought to justice accused of human trafficking.

The interdictive operation took place at night in Mata de Santa Cruz, Guayubín municipality, in this province. The detainees, respecting their rights, will be processed individually and according to established protocols, and then deported to their country of origin. The DGM’s interdiction teams carry out their work with the main objective of combating irregular migration and preventing crimes related to it, such as human trafficking and organized crime. The DGM reiterates its commitment to guaranteeing inalienable rights, humane treatment, and respect for human dignity.
