SANTO DOMINGO. – The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported that in the month of May, 35,305 foreigners in an irregular migratory status were deported, as a result of the migratory interdiction operations carried out throughout the national territory and the control actions performed in coordination with the State’s security and defense agencies
In May, 35,553 people were received at border migration control points for the purpose of verifying their immigration status and returning them to their country of origin. Of the total number of detainees in this period, 25,970 were apprehended by DGM agents, 5,877 by members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), 2,366 by those of the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (CESFRONT) of the Ministry of Defense, and 1,340 by National Police agents, evidencing the joint effort of the institutions committed to the application of the General Migration Law in the country.

During the past weekend, on Friday the 29th, Saturday the 30th, and Sunday the 31st of May, 3,447 foreigners in an irregular migratory status were detained and 3,250 people were deported. Of that total, 1,883 were deported on Friday, another 877 on Saturday, and 687 on Sunday.
The interdictions carried out during that period allowed for the detention of 1,126 people on Friday, May 29, 1,346 on Saturday the 30th, and 778 on Sunday the 31st. Likewise, support institutions handed over 610 undocumented individuals to the DGM.

The operations covered sectors and communities of Greater Santo Domingo and the National District, including Manoguayabo, Ciudad Juan Bosch, Sabana Perdida, Cristo Rey, Villa Agrícolas, Villa Mella, San Isidro, San Luis, Herrera, Boca Chica, Los Mina, Buenos Aires de Herrera, among others.
The actions also extended to provinces in the North, South, and East of the country, including Santiago, La Vega, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, Montecristi, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Hermanas Mirabal, Monseñor Nouel, Samaná, Sánchez Ramírez, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Independencia, Pedernales, Bahoruco, Barahona, Azua, Peravia, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, La Altagracia, La Romana, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Monte Plata, and San Pedro de Macorís.
The General Directorate of Migration reiterated that it will continue to strengthen interdiction operations throughout the national territory, and the deportation of undocumented individuals, in coordination with the State’s security and defense institutions, as part of the actions aimed at guaranteeing compliance with current migration legislation in the Dominican Republic.
