Court grants Ángel Martínez 30-day permit for medical checkups in the U.S.

Santo Domingo.- The communicator Ángel Martínez obtained judicial permission to travel to United States in order to undergo medical evaluations. The authorization was granted by Judge Clara Luz Almonte, of the Second Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance of the National District, who granted a period of 30 days for his temporary departure from the country, as part of the legal process he faces for defamation and insult against deputy Sergio Moya (Gory).

During the hearing, the magistrate ordered the provisional suspension of the exit ban on Martínez, who must return to the country once the deadline is over, to continue facing the legal proceedings against him. The defense celebrated the decision, considering that the defendant’s right to attend to his health is respected. However, Martinez could still face prison if he does not comply with the payment of the bail imposed as part of the coercive measures, which include periodic presentation, the use of an electronic shackle and the prohibition of leaving that is now temporarily suspended.

In addition to the case with deputy Moya, Martínez faces other defamation lawsuits, including one by the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, and another in Santiago filed by businessman Arnulfo Gutiérrez.
