La Romana. — A man identified as Alberto Peña de la Cruz, 45 years old, lost his life after being involved in an incident that occurred on 18th Street in the Villa Caoba sector, Villa Hermosa municipality, La Romana province.
According to information gathered at the scene, the incident occurred when Peña de la Cruz arrived at a home where Maritza Camacho resided, with whom he had allegedly maintained a romantic relationship in the past.
Relatives indicated that there were previous differences between both parties and an alleged restraining order. According to versions offered by Zoraida José, the deceased had allegedly gone to the place on several occasions, where he was supposedly involved in tense situations.
He explained that this Wednesday morning the man returned to the home again and, according to his version, a confrontation occurred with the young woman’s father, resulting in a serious injury that subsequently caused him to lose his life.

Following the incident, the young woman’s father and one of her brothers remain in custody for investigation purposes, while the authorities carry out the corresponding procedures to establish responsibilities and fully clarify what happened.
National Police officers and emergency units arrived at the scene. The body was removed by forensic doctor Benito Kelly, accompanied by Public Ministry representative Kelvin Santana.

The authorities highlighted that from May 28th to this July 1st, several similar cases have been recorded in different sectors of La Romana, where several people have lost their lives amidst conflicts and incidents.
Among the reported cases are Ángela Dieva Michel, in the vicinity of Juan Pablo Duarte park; Yeuri José Belice, in Villa Progreso; Eduardo Báez, known as “Capo”, in El Higo; Lubin Gesner, in Trasero de Maco; Erick Manuel Herrera Ruiz, in Los Maestros; Brahian Forchue Reyes, in Piedra Linda; and now Alberto Peña de la Cruz, in Villa Caoba.
With this latest case, the number of people who have lost their lives in situations linked to conflicts during that period rises to seven, generating concern among residents and authorities of the province.
Investigations are ongoing to clarify this new event.
