Migration stops 1,425 undocumented Haitian nationals and deports another 1,243

Santo Domingo.- Units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) detained 1,425 undocumented Haitian nationals and deported another 1,243 of the same nationality, the DGM reported this Friday. The operations, which were carried out by immigration enforcement agents, along with the support of the other citizen security forces, were carried out in Gran Santo Domingo, where 181 people were arrested, Santiago (79), La Vega (36), Mao/Santiago Rodríguez (64), East zone (91), Azua (31), Barahona (42), Puerto Plata (82), Montecristi (79), Dajabón (53), Elías Piña (36), Jimaní (38) and Pedernales (76).

These arrests are in addition to the 340 undocumented Haitians captured by the Army, 132 by the National Police, 63 by Cesfront, and two by the National Environmental Protection Service, according to a statement from the DGM. The interdicted individuals were transferred to the foreign processing centers for those in irregular migratory status managed by the DGM, where biometric data, fingerprints were taken, and they were “cleared according to established protocols”. “The rights and dignity of the interdicted were respected,” indicated the immigration authorities. The deportees were handed over to the Haitian immigration authorities through the binational points of Dajabón, where 342 people were handed over, Elías Piña (735), Pedernales (99) and Jimaní (67). “With these actions, the DGM not only complies with Law 285-04 that regulates it, but also the guidelines of the National Defense and Security Council and the mandate of President Luis Abinader to reduce the risks that illegal immigration poses to order and security, as well as the burden it represents for the country’s economy,” indicated the General Directorate. In addition, the DGM indicated that it “will continue its interdiction operations so that all foreigners in the national territory, regardless of their origin or skin color, are properly documented and registered.”
