Minister Ito Bisonó moves to Gaspar Hernández to assess damage to homes and the environment after the Joba River overflowed

Gaspar Hernández, Espaillat. – The Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, Ito Bisonó, moved this Friday to Gaspar Hernández to verify firsthand the damage caused by the intense rains and the overflow of the Joba River, a situation that has affected homes and part of the municipality’s surroundings.

The visit takes place at the instructions of President Luis Abinader, after a technical team from the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) was sent to the area on Thursday to carry out a preliminary survey of the level of affectation, identify impacted homes and assess the environmental conditions with a view to structuring an intervention plan.

“Since we became aware of the situation, we instructed the immediate deployment of our technical team. Today we are here, alongside the community and local authorities, to listen, assess, and act responsibly in matters of housing and environmental adaptation,” expressed Bisonó. The official explained that, as part of the MIVHED’s responsibilities, work will be done on the repair of impacted homes through the Dominicana Se Reconstruye program, as well as on actions to intervene and dignify the environment to allow the restoration of safe conditions for the affected families. Bisonó was accompanied by the senator of Espaillat province, Carlos Gómez; the Vice Minister of the Presidency Alexis Jimenez; the governor of the province, Patricia Muñoz; the mayor of Gaspar Hernández, Abel Suriel; the director of the municipal district of Joba Arriba, Edgar Di Anny; the director of the municipal district of Villa Magante, Balan Ramos; the director of the municipal district of Veragua, Luis Canela; and the priest Rafael Lara. Also participating were the Vice Minister of Housing and Buildings, Ney García, and the technical team of MIVHED, who held meetings with community leaders and affected residents to gather detailed information to structure a quick and coordinated response. Also, representatives from CORAAMOCA, Promipyme, Public Health, Social Plan of the Presidency, among others, participated in the meeting. During the day, the delivery of belongings intended to assist affected families with essential items was also carried out, as part of the immediate support in the face of the situation. The Ministry reported that the actions will be carried out in coordination with municipal and provincial authorities, as well as with response agencies already operating in the area, ensuring that each institution acts within its competencies.
