MP varies request for pre-trial detention in case of Operation Discovery 3.0

Santiago.- The Public Ministry changed this Friday the request for preventive detention to house arrest for five of the defendants in the case known as “Grandparents’ Scam”, while requesting 18 months of preventive detention for two other defendants The prosecution requested the judge of the Permanent Attention Court of the judicial district of this city, Yiberty Polanco, to change the preventive detention for house arrest for Adderly Antonio Polanco Báez, José Ramón López Tavares, Juan Luis Naranjo Gómez, Luis Eduardo Méndez Ureña In the case of Gipsy Pamela Castaños García, in addition to house arrest, the prosecuting body requested an economic guarantee of 500,000 pesos through an insurance company and periodic reporting to the prosecutor’s office. Also, the prosecution requested that the case be declared complex, alleging that it is an organized criminal structure with multiple defendants and transnational impact.

Prosecutor Claudio Cordero stated that the change occurred after hearing the statements of five of the defendants who would have been favored by the change in the request to show themselves as “collaborators” during the hearing. The decision of the Permanent Attention court of Santiago, led by Yibery Polanco, will be announced on Friday, September 5th, starting at 2:00 PM. The defense attorneys x, Wilson Filpo, Nelson Peralta and Jusn Carlos Báez valued the decision made by the court to deliberate as fair and positive.
