Residents in Manoguayabo fear floods due to Melissa’s rains

Santo Domingo. – Residents of the Arroyo Bonito sector, in Manoguayabo, Santo Domingo Oeste, requested the urgent intervention of the authorities due to the fear of possible floods caused by the torrential rains generated by the tropical storm Melissa. Dante Rafael Matos, known in the area as Don Picho, who resides near a ravine, expressed his concern about the increase in the flow and said he remains vigilant in the face of any eventuality.

Similarly, José Manuel, another resident of street 6 of the sector, assured that he and his family sleep during the day and stay awake during the night for fear that the waters will re-enter their home. “Every time it rains hard, the water comes up to our chests,” he recounted. The community is requesting the construction of a drain and other drainage works to mitigate the risk of flooding that affects numerous families in the area. The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that intense showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts will continue to be recorded in a large part of the country during the afternoon and night of this Thursday, as a result of Tropical Storm Melissa. Nine provinces remain on red alert: Barahona, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Azua, Peravia, and Pedernales.
