Samaná.— A recent operation led by the Mayor’s Office of Santa Bárbara de Samaná, under the direction of Nelson Núñez, brought to light not only the irregular occupation of a public space on Puerto Escondido beach, but also the worrying mental health situation of a foreign citizen.
The operation, carried out this Friday with the support of institutions such as the General Directorate of Migration, the Ministry of Tourism, the Provincial Health Directorate and the Tourist Police (Politur), allowed to verify that the Bulgarian citizen Ivan Grekov Nikolov was living in inadequate conditions, surrounded by more than 60 stray dogs and among a large accumulation of plastic waste and glass objects.
The authorities not only intervened to regain access to the beach, but also expressed concern about the evident deterioration in the psychosocial well-being of the foreigner, who has remained isolated and in unsanitary conditions for an indefinite period.
After being removed from the scene, Nikolov was taken by the authorities to a residence within the municipality that he himself identified as his, while his situation is being evaluated and possible medical and psychological care is being coordinated.
Mayor Núñez reaffirmed his commitment to the rescue of public spaces, but also to the articulation of institutional efforts that can offer support to people in situations of mental or social vulnerability.
The City Hall will continue working with the corresponding authorities to guarantee both the proper use of natural resources and the attention to human needs that may arise in their environment.
