Santo Domingo.– The National District City Hall (ADN) carried out an operation to recover public spaces on Q Street in the Arroyo Hondo sector, where 11 structures that were irregularly occupying sidewalks and obstructing pedestrian passage were removed.
The operation was carried out by the Directorate of Defense and Use of Public Spaces (DUEP), whose director, Lieutenant Colonel José Aníbal Sanz Melo, explained that the structures were being used as warehouses and extensions of commercial establishments, affecting mobility and the proper use of spaces intended for pedestrian traffic.
Sanz Melo highlighted that these actions respond to the commitment of Mayor Carolina Mejía’s administration to maintain order and ensure that citizens can move safely along the sidewalks.
Likewise, he pointed out that these types of operations are part of a permanent plan for the recovery of public spaces being developed by the National District City Hall, in compliance with Law 176-07 of the National District and Municipalities.

The official recalled that the DUEP has carried out similar interventions in different parts of the capital, including the intersection of Nicolás de Ovando and Máximo Gómez avenues, where a sidewalk that had been irregularly occupied by informal vendors for more than 25 years was recovered.
The actions have also extended to the surroundings of the Dr. Luis Eduardo Aybar Health City and the La Yagüita sector, as part of the mayor’s office efforts to preserve urban order, improve pedestrian mobility, and guarantee free access to public spaces.
