Santo Domingo. The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that a trough combined with the passage of a tropical wave will continue to generate unstable conditions this Sunday over a large part of the national territory, favoring moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in several provinces of the country.
According to the agency, during the morning hours there will be rain over locations on the southern coastal littoral, while in the afternoon there will be cloud increases accompanied by downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in provinces of the northeast, southwest, the eastern plains, the Central mountain range, and the border area.

Among the areas with the highest probability of precipitation are San Cristóbal, Azua, Barahona, El Seibo, Pedernales, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, Elías Piña, Bahoruco, Independencia, La Vega, Santiago, Valverde, and Santiago Rodríguez.
Given these conditions, the Indomet National Forecasting Center maintains 12 provinces under a meteorological alert and six under a meteorological warning, due to the risk of urban flooding, overflowing of rivers, streams, and creeks, as well as possible landslides.
The provinces under alert are Peravia, Duarte, El Seibo, María Trinidad Sánchez, San José de Ocoa, La Vega, Azua, Samaná, San Pedro de Macorís, Greater Santo Domingo, Barahona, and San Cristóbal. Meanwhile, Dajabón, Puerto Plata, Monte Cristi, Valverde, Santiago, and Santiago Rodríguez remain under weather advisory.

For Greater Santo Domingo an environment of scattered clouds to partly cloudy is forecast, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day.
Indomet also indicated that temperatures will remain hot, with lows between 23 °C and 25 °C and highs between 31 °C and 33 °C.
The entity also warned about the presence of Saharan dust, a phenomenon that reduces air quality and increases the heat index. Therefore, it recommended that the population, especially people with allergies or respiratory problems, stay hydrated, wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, and avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Rainfall expected to decrease on Monday
For this Monday, Indomet forecasts a reduction in rainfall activity due to the arrival of an air mass with lower moisture content and moderate concentrations of Saharan dust. However, the approach of another tropical wave and a trough in the middle levels of the troposphere could cause morning rains in sectors of the Caribbean coast and the southwest region.

During the afternoon, some downpours accompanied by isolated thunderstorms are expected in areas of the Central Mountain Range and the border, as a result of local effects and daytime heating.
