The victims were identified as Samuel Estime and Brice Marc Arthur, both of Haitian nationality and residents of the Benerito community. According to preliminary information, the two men were heading to their workplace when they were allegedly surprised by a patrol from the General Directorate of Migration. The accident caused extensive traffic congestion for several hours, with traffic being restored after the removal of the bodies. Family members and colleagues of the victims initially opposed the removal of the bodies by the authorities, arguing that they were two low-income workers. The bodies were finally lifted and transferred by INACIF personnel to the morgue of the Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia Hospital, in the municipality of Higüey.
