Santo Domingo, DN – Carolina Mejía led the declaration as Distinguished Municipality of the city of Santo Domingo to Blas Darío Fragoso “El Blachy”, recognizing in him a talent that represents thousands of young people born in neighborhoods of the capital.
Speaking on behalf of the National District City Council, the municipal executive assured that she feels enormous joy for being able to present this distinction to an artist who has made a great contribution to Dominican culture, through the revitalization that typical merengue has had at the hands of El Blachy in recent years.

“We recognize El Blachy’s artistic talent, but above all the power of being such a good exponent of the Dominican Republic through his great performance as an artist and for the revitalization that our typical merengue has been able to have through your talent,” Mejía highlighted. When taking the floor during the recognition, Blas Darío Fragoso thanked the mayor and council members for approving a recognition that is so important to him. The singer assured that he will continue on the right path so that his parents, wife, and fans feel proud. “For me, it’s a source of pride that you all feel good,” he added. The declaration was approved unanimously on January 20th with the support of the President of the Council of Aldermen, Yovany Moya, and motivated by the spokespersons of the different blocs within the chamber. In the act were present the deputy Manuel Núñez and the president of the Council of Regidores, Yovany Moya, both of whom promoted this declaration; also councilors Ricardo Cuello Santiago and Francklin Ferreras. In addition, the artist was accompanied by his wife, his parents and some friends and representatives. Regarding National Youth Day, which was celebrated on January 31st, the Council of Councilors of the Ayuntamiento del Distrito Nacional distinguished 26 young people who have stood out for their contributions in areas such as politics, culture, social communication, economics, sports, and entrepreneurship; impacting the lives of the citizens of the National District.
