According to investigations, the artist allegedly received prescriptions for the drugs Xanax and Stilnox between 2022 and 2025 at a university hospital in Seoul without personally attending medical consultations, delegating the task of picking up the medications to his representative and other individuals.
The Seodaemun District Police Station in Seoul referred six people to the prosecution last Friday, including PSY, his representative, and the doctor responsible for the prescriptions. All are accused of violating South Korean medical legislation, which states that only patients who attend a consultation can receive prescription medication.

If found guilty, the interpreter could be punished with a sentence of up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won, equivalent to about 6,500 dollars.
The authorities began the investigation in August 2025. At that time, the artist’s agency, P Nation, reported that PSY suffers from a chronic sleep disorder and is undergoing treatment with sleeping medication.
The company asserted that the medical prescriptions “were not obtained through third parties,” although it acknowledged that on some occasions other people went to pick up the medications on behalf of the singer.
Both Xanax and Stilnox are drugs used to treat sleep disorders, anxiety, and depression. Due to their potential for dependence, their prescription and dispensing are subject to strict medical controls and generally require the patient’s presence during the consultation.
