Who will Bridgerton S5 be about?
The season 4 of Bridgerton left the field ready for two key characters to lead the next installment. On the one hand, there’s Eloise, who since the first season has been skeptical of marriage and firm in her refusal to be courted. However, in the most recent episodes we have seen an evolution in her stance and little by little she seems more open to meeting new people and rethinking her own convictions. On the other hand, there’s Francesca, whose story took a painful turn after becoming a widow this season. Although the order in which the stories of Eloise and Francesca, will be adapted is still unknown, it is confirmed that both will lead seasons 5 and 6. In fact, during the premiere of the fourth season, Brownell drew attention by wearing two pocket squares with the initials “E” and “F”, reinforcing the idea that the future of the series is already decided although the order remains a mystery.
What are these clues?
In the post-credits scene of season 4 of Bridgerton, Kate, present at the wedding, wonders which brother or sister could be next to reach the altar. The question makes both Eloise and the recently widowed Francesca uncomfortable.Eloise, to everyone’s surprise, replies that she enjoys weddings, a statement that contrasts with her historical anti-romantic stance. Francesca, on the other hand, assures that she already lived her “great love” and that “once was enough”, making it clear that she is still going through her mourning.
If the series were to follow the original order of Julia Quinn’s novels, the fifth season would adapt To Sir Phillip, With Love, focusing on the story of Eloise. In the book, she begins a relationship with Sir Phillip Crane, widower of Marina Thompson.
Although Sir Phillip, played by Chris Fulton, has already appeared in the series, Eloise still doesn’t know him formally and Marina, played by Ruby Barker, is still alive in the television adaptation. On the other hand, Francesca’s arc is based on When He Was Wicked, the sixth novel in the saga. On screen, the series has already hinted at a possible attraction towards Michaela, John’s cousin, although the character leaves without saying goodbye, leaving the story in suspense. While Bridgerton has already altered the order of the books before, current clues suggest that Eloise could lead the next season, as her recent openness to love contrasts with the emotional moment of Francesca, who is still facing a deep loss.
