Olga Tañón will receive the Musical Excellence Award at the Latin Grammy

Miami – The Latin Recording Academy announced that Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón will be one of the artists recognized with the Musical Excellence Award during the next Latin Grammy gala, which will be held in November in Las Vegas, United States.

Tañón will share this honor with other outstanding figures of Ibero-American music: Peruvian Susana Baca, Spanish Enrique Bunbury, Brazilian Ivan Lins and the Mexican trio Pandora. All of them were selected by the Academy’s Board of Directors in recognition of their artistic careers and significant contributions to Latin music.

“It is an immense privilege to honor these music legends, who continue to redefine our rich musical heritage, as well as our first Latin Music Educator Award winner,” said Manuel Abud, CEO of The Latin Recording Academy. “We are very excited about the opportunity to celebrate them all during the 26th Annual Latin GRAMMY Week.” The institution highlighted the versatility of the so-called “Woman of Fire” as one of the key reasons for awarding her this accolade. “She is much more than a merengue icon. With her powerful and fierce voice, she has easily ventured into bachata, salsa, and Latin pop, forging a versatile and pioneering career,” the Academy stated in its official announcement. Olga Tañón, who has won multiple Latin Grammys throughout her career and has also been recognized with the Anglo Grammy, reacted with deep emotion upon receiving the news. In a video released on the Academy’s social media, the artist expressed:

“My heart doesn’t fit in my chest. Thanks to all the people who have had the opportunity to make this reach me, my children, my descendants, the people who are really going to stay and that this really be something that leads us to never give up as Hispanics, to never give up as a nation, to not give up our talent. And to always defend it wherever we are. So thank you very much for this great honor that the academy gives me. I fall short, God bless you.”

The Award for Musical Excellence was established in 2004, four years after the first edition of the Latin Grammys, and is awarded to performers who have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic value to Latin music.
