'The Odyssey' surpasses $600 million at the global box office

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has surpassed $600 million worldwide after remaining the top-grossing film during its second weekend in theaters.

The epic starring Matt Damon as Odysseus earned $87 million at the U.S. box office over the weekend, representing a 30% decline from its $123.5 million domestic debut. The strong hold helped the film become the biggest global opening success of Nolan’s career, surpassing the director’s previous milestones.

The film benefited from a weekend with no major studio releases, allowing it to maintain its momentum ahead of next week’s debut of Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which is expected to provide stronger competition.

Meanwhile, Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, while Disney’s live-action “Moana” finished second at the domestic box office. Horror film “Obsession” also remained in the top 10, continuing its unexpected theatrical success.
