Santo Domingo Norte, RD.– The remains of the prominent Dominican folklore exponent Enerolisa Núñez are being watched over at her residence in Mata de los Indios, in Villa Mella, since this Saturday morning, after her death occurred at her home.

Family members, friends, artists, cultural researchers, and members of various brotherhoods have begun to gather at the site to pay tribute to the one who was one of the most authentic bearers of this religious musical expression, deeply rooted in the national identity. Núñez, born on January 19 in Villa Mella, dedicated her life to preserving and disseminating the salve, a tradition that intertwines popular devotion, ritual percussion, and African heritage. At the head of “Enerolisa Núñez and her Grupo Salve” and the “Grupo Salve Mata de los Indios”, she took her songs to national and international stages, consolidating herself as an undisputed reference in the genre. For two years, she had been facing health complications after suffering a stroke (CVA). Despite this, she continued to participate in cultural activities, having been seen recently at an event held at Bellas Artes. Various cultural figures have expressed their sorrow at the artist’s passing, highlighting her contribution to the preservation of Dominican intangible cultural heritage. Her family and members of her group have expressed their intention to continue her legacy, keeping the salve tradition alive from Mata de los Indios. With his departure, the country bids farewell to one of the most representative voices of popular religiosity and traditional folklore, whose echo will continue to resonate in every song and drum of the Dominican salve.
