24-year-old footballer killed by lightning strike during match in Thailand

A 24-year-old football player died after being struck by lightning during a match in southern Thailand on Tuesday, in an incident that also left 12 other players injured.

The victim was identified as Safwan Awae, a player for Yala FC, who was competing in the Golok FA Cup in Su-ngai Kolok, Narathiwat Province, when lightning struck the pitch.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and provided medical assistance, but Awae was pronounced dead. Twelve other players sustained injuries in the lightning strike.

Videos circulating on social media appear to show the moment the lightning bolt hit the field, causing panic among players and spectators.

Authorities have not released additional details about the condition of the injured players. The incident has sparked renewed concern about player safety during matches held in severe weather conditions.
