Brooklyn resident arrested for allegedly threatening federal agent during protest at immigration center

New York.- Federal authorities reported the arrest of a Brooklyn resident accused of issuing death threats against an agent of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and members of his family during a protest held in front of the Delaney Hall immigration detention center in Newark, New Jersey.

According to court documents, the detainee was identified as 27-year-old Nicholas Matthew Scelfo, who allegedly made verbal threats against a federal officer while participating in a demonstration related to immigration policies and the conditions reported by immigrants held at the detention center.

The investigation was conducted by federal agents, who analyzed video recordings captured during the protest. According to the authorities, the images show the accused making explicit threats against the agent and his family members. Subsequently, the suspect was located and arrested by federal authorities.

The United States Department of Justice filed charges for allegedly attempting to intimidate, influence, or retaliate against a federal official through threats. If found guilty, the defendant could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, in addition to financial penalties provided for by federal law.

The case occurs amidst growing tension around Delaney Hall, where over the last few weeks there have been demonstrations, clashes with authorities, and dozens of arrests linked to protests against immigration operations and the conditions reported by detainees.
