Bukele responds to Humberto Salazar regarding questions about military operation in Haiti

The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, responded to the Dominican communicator Humberto Salazar, who questioned the risks of a Salvadoran military intervention in Haiti, in an analysis titled “Bukele and his Waterloo?”

Through his account on the social network X, the president shared Salazar’s post and rejected the arguments warning about the difficulties that Salvadoran forces could face against Haitian gangs, due to their weaponry capacity and their history of resistance against international missions.

Bukele maintained that, if the operation is successful, those who currently question its possibilities will change their stance and downplay the challenges involved in confronting criminal organizations in Haitian territory.

“Anyway, we have never listened to them and we are not going to start now,” the Salvadoran president expressed in his post.

The president also appealed to his religious beliefs to defend the mission, asserting that the Salvadoran soldiers are believers and that the operation has been entrusted to God. Likewise, he described the Haitian gangs as satanic and accused them of performing human sacrifices.

“God will grant us victory,” stated Bukele, who accompanied his message with a quote from the biblical book of Deuteronomy 28:7.

Search for Salvadoran technicians

The exchange takes place amidst a military operation aimed at locating four Salvadoran aviation technicians reported missing since October 18, after armed men attacked the vehicle in which they were traveling through Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti.

Bukele’s response adds to the debate over the risks and challenges of a potential intervention by Salvadoran forces against the gangs operating in Haiti, in a context marked by insecurity and the activity of armed groups in that country.
