San Salvador.- The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, won the presidential nomination of his party, Nuevas Ideas (NI), for the 2027 elections, according to the political group’s website this Monday.
The Nuevas Ideas party announced the “winners, according to the total votes counted, ordered from highest to lowest” of the primaries held this Sunday on its website, where a photograph of Bukele, 42, is displayed with the caption “president.”
The website does not show data such as the percentage of votes obtained by Bukele or if there was another candidate, although the party did not report whether there would be an internal challenger to the president.
Bukele, who is already serving his second consecutive term and was cleared to run for a third following a controversial constitutional reform, has not yet commented on his party’s internal elections.
As a next step ahead of the 2027 elections, Bukele must register his candidacy with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) between October 1 and November 19, 2026, in accordance with the electoral calendar of the collegiate body.
