A 36-year-old Dominican man was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside his apartment at a luxury residential building in Long Island City, Queens, in a case that has New York City police searching for possible suspects.

The victim was identified as Carlos Penzo, a Queens resident whose body was discovered Saturday afternoon inside an apartment at The Hayden building on Hunter Street.

Police found Penzo sitting upright inside the bathtub with multiple stab wounds to his head, face, and chest. Officers also recovered a knife and a Taser on his lap, while two other knives were found elsewhere in the apartment.

The discovery came after officers responded to the building following a rooftop fire alarm. Security personnel found a naked man using a fire extinguisher to spray surveillance cameras and later attempting to force his way into an apartment, according to police sources.

The man was taken into custody, and while checking the apartment he allegedly tried to enter, officers found Penzo’s body. The Dominican man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The individual remains in custody and is considered a person of interest in the investigation. No charges have been filed against him so far.
