The President of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed late this Wednesday that he personally signed the agreement reached with Iran to put an end to the war in the Middle East, accelerating a process that initially contemplated a formal ceremony in Switzerland next Friday.
“It is already signed”, declared Trump to reporters upon leaving the Palace of Versailles, in France. “I signed it at Versailles. I just signed it”, he added, in reference to the memorandum of understanding negotiated between Washington and Tehran.
The president’s confirmation came hours after U.S. officials revealed that the agreement had been signed by both parties and had already begun to be implemented.
Shortly after the announcement, presidential advisor Dan Scavino shared a video on the social network X in which Trump is seen signing the memorandum and handing the document to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The signing took place during a dinner at the Palace of Versailles, with the French president, Emmanuel Macron, sitting by his side. After completing the procedure, the French leader responded with applause.

According to U.S. officials, the signed copy was subsequently sent to Tehran to complete the process agreed upon by both parties.

From Tehran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baqai, also confirmed that the memorandum was signed electronically by both governments and stated that the process was concluded.
“The memorandum between Iran and the United States is now officially finalized because both parties have signed it”, he maintained.
Baqai explained that, as a consequence of that digital signature, a formal signing ceremony on Swiss territory will no longer be necessary, although the delegations of both countries plan to meet in Geneva to address the next phase of negotiations.
The Iranian official indicated that the document was drafted in both English and Farsi at Tehran’s request.
“This represents the highest level of transparency in our public communication”, he stated, noting that the existence of two official versions seeks to avoid differences in interpretation regarding the content of the agreement.
According to Iranian authorities, the entry into force of the memorandum has already produced some practical effects. Baqai asserted that the United States accelerated the elimination of maritime restrictions imposed during the conflict and maintained that Iranian vessels are already operating normally in the country’s ports. Furthermore, he explained that the text establishes the immediate start of a new 60-day diplomatic phase focused exclusively on two issues: the Iranian nuclear program and the eventual lifting of economic sanctions.
“The wise decision of the Islamic Republic was not to negotiate the nuclear issue at this stage. It was decided that the focus should be on ending the war, and we achieved it”, he declared.
The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and Tehran’s chief negotiator, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, maintained for his part that the memorandum also incorporates regional issues that were central during the talks. Among them, he mentioned the situation in Lebanon and the future of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important energy routes in the world.
The statements come after Trump publicly defended the agreement during the G7 summit. The president assured that the understanding will allow for an end to hostilities, guarantee the reopening of Hormuz, and block any possibility of Iran developing nuclear weapons.
Although the memorandum has already been signed and has begun to be implemented, complex negotiations remain pending regarding nuclear issues, economic sanctions, and international oversight mechanisms.

However, Trump’s confirmation represents the most concrete step taken so far to transform the truce reached after months of conflict into a broader political agreement.
