Barcelona.- Five people have died and four others have been slightly injured in a fire that occurred this Monday in an apartment block in the Barcelona town of Manlleu, in northeastern Spain, the Generalitat Fire Department has reported.
The fire has started for reasons that are still unknown in a storage room converted into a dwelling on the roof of a five-story building located on Montseny street and the people inside have not been able to get out.You may be interested in: http://Muere Ozzy Osbourne a los 76 años, leyenda del heavy metal y líder de Black Sabbath
Around 9:10 PM (8:10 PM GMT), several residents in the building called 112 to report the fire on the top floor and the presence of smoke in the stairwell. Thirteen crews from the Generalitat Fire Department have moved there, and upon arrival, they found the building completely evacuated. The fire was declared extinguished at 21:41 hours (21:41 GMT) and it was then that the members of the body located the first victim, a person in a state of cardiorespiratory arrest. Inside the storage room, firefighters have found four more victims. The teams from the Emergency Medical System (SEM), which have activated eleven ambulances and two psychological support teams, have been unable to do anything to save their lives. In the fire, four other people were slightly injured: three were discharged after being treated by the ambulances and the fourth did not want to be transferred to any hospital. The Investigation Unit of the Mossos d’Esquadra (the regional police) has taken charge of the investigation to try to clarify the causes of the accident. For their part, the local police have provided support to the neighbors who have left the building alarmed by the smoke in the stairwell.
