Hindu devotee rolls nearly 5 kilometers on his body in demanding religious ritual in India

A man in India completed an intense physical and spiritual journey by rolling nearly five kilometers along the asphalt to reach a sacred area near Kamadgiri in Chitrakoot.
Surrounded by a crowd celebrating his devotion, the man moved along the route by rolling his body on the ground. His followers placed large sponges and mats beneath him to help protect him from serious injuries caused by the hard, rough surface.
The demanding journey is part of the Hindu tradition known as “parikrama” or “pradakshina,” which involves following a designated route around a place considered sacred. In this case, the route near Kamadgiri is approximately five kilometers long and holds major religious significance.
As the devotee continued rolling along the road, his companions not only helped protect his body but also danced and celebrated around him, turning the ritual into a communal display of faith.
Indian media reported that the practice has a historical variation known as “Shayana Pradakshinam,” in which devotees lie down and roll their bodies as they complete the entire sacred route.
The precautions taken by those accompanying the devotee reflected their efforts to protect him while he carried out the physically demanding religious practice, which requires considerable endurance and commitment.
