Javier Milei compares socialism to fascism during summit in Madrid

The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, once again questioned socialism during his participation this Thursday in the XXX Ibero-American Summit, held in Madrid, where he compared that political current with fascism and maintained that both share characteristics related to the concentration of power and economic control.
During his speech before representatives of the participating countries, the Argentine president stated that these ideologies limit individual freedoms through greater state intervention in the economic and political decisions of citizens.
“Socialism is fascist in politics and fascism is socialist in economics. Both doctrines concentrate the control of individual decisions in the hands of a minority and make economic dependence an instrument of political domination,” stated Milei.
Milei questions the role of the State in the economy
The Argentine ruler defended his critical stance against the political and economic models that, according to his interpretation, grant the State a predominant role in the organization of society.
Milei argued that the concentration of decision-making in government institutions can create economic dependency and reduce the ability of citizens to act freely.
His statements reflect his ideological position, although socialism and fascism are historically distinct currents, with different political and economic foundations.
Meets with Pedro Sánchez at the summit
The participation of the Argentine president also drew attention due to his coincidence with the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, with whom he has maintained public differences over political and ideological issues.
Both leaders have engaged in verbal confrontations on previous occasions, due to their opposing positions on the role of the State, the economy, and social policies.
The XXX Ibero-American Summit brought together representatives from different countries to address matters of common interest, in a scenario where the ideological differences between some of its participants were also exposed.
Milei’s statements come amidst his repeated criticisms of socialist policies and his defense of an economic model based on the free market and less state intervention.
