St. Paul police officers rescued a child from a pond in the Greater East Side on Monday afternoon after a Good Samaritan called 911 reporting that the child appeared to be struggling to get out of the water.
Police immediately deployed a tethered drone operated by a trained officer. The drone arrived at the scene two minutes before officers and provided critical information about the child’s location and condition, helping officers safely pull the child from the water.
According to the child’s family, the child has autism and had wandered away from home without their knowledge. Police said the ability to quickly locate the child and guide officers using the tethered drone resources contributed to the positive outcome.
