Massachusetts.– Lindsay Clancy, the former American nurse accused of causing the deaths of her three children, will have to wait for the definition of the next judicial steps after the jury remained deadlocked and could not reach a verdict in her case.
Clancy, 36, has admitted to strangling her children in the basement of the family home in Massachusetts in January 2023. The controversy during the trial focused primarily on determining whether she could be held criminally responsible for her actions.
Lindsay Clancy alleged postpartum psychosis through her defense
The defense maintained that the woman was experiencing an episode of postpartum psychosis when the deaths occurred and subsequently attempted to take her own life, an argument with which they sought to demonstrate that her mental condition affected her criminal responsibility.
After the deliberations, the jury remained divided and reported that it could not reach a unanimous decision.

Given that situation, the judge announced his intention to declare a mistrial, although he granted Clancy’s lawyers a one-hour window to file an appeal before formalizing the decision.
The nullity of the trial does not in itself imply Clancy’s acquittal and leaves the definition of the next judicial steps in the case pending.
