NEW YORK.– The President of the United States, Donald Trump, focused much of his address to the United Nations General Assembly on the situation in Iran and his administration’s efforts to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear capabilities.
During his speech, Trump defended the actions taken by the United States against the Iranian nuclear program, maintaining that an eventual nuclear capability for Iran would represent a threat to his country and its allies.
The U.S. president also addressed the war between Russia and Ukraine and stated that his administration seeks to steer the conflict toward a negotiated settlement. In that context, a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled on the sidelines of the General Assembly activities.
Trump also took advantage of his speech to question the effectiveness of the United Nations in resolving international conflicts and criticized some of its actions, considering that they may affect the sovereignty of the United States.
Regarding foreign policy, the U.S. president announced a firmer stance toward governments such as Cuba’s and indicated that he plans to present a peace plan for Gaza.

Likewise, he referred to possible economic measures against countries that maintain certain trade ties with Iran, at a time when diplomatic movements related to Tehran and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz are taking place.
Trump’s intervention was part of the first high-level speeches at the UN General Assembly, where major world leaders set out their positions on the conflicts and challenges facing the international community.
