Pope Leo XIV has asked priests to stop using artificial intelligence to write their sermons, arguing that it “will never be able to share the faith”, reports Vatican News.
The pontiff made the call during a closed-door meeting with clergy from the Diocese of Rome, including some of the Vatican’s highest-ranking advisors and local priests.

In this sense, he invited religious leaders to
“enter real life” and asked that the use of the Internet be monitored, urging them not to fall into the “temptation of preparing homilies with artificial intelligence”.
“Like all the muscles in the body, if we don’t use them, if we don’t move them, they die. The brain needs to be used, so our intelligence must also be exercised a little so as not to lose this capacity,” he asserted, adding that “
giving a true homily is sharing faith, and AI will never be able to share faith.”
Leo XIV had already
warned previously about the use of AI and social media, highlighting
the importance of “focusing on Christ” in the face of a world characterized by the logic of frivolity and ‘fake news’.
