Moscow.- The presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the United States,
Donald Trump, will meet in the coming days, announced this Thursday the Kremlin’s advisor for international policy, Yuri Ushakov.
“The approximate date was set for next week, but the parties are starting to prepare for this important meeting and it is difficult to predict how many days their preparations will take,” Ushakov said, quoted by the official TASS agency.
The diplomat emphasized that
“the meeting place was also, in principle, agreed upon, but we will inform about it a little later.”
He highlighted that the proposal to hold a summit between Putin and Trump comes from the White House, whose special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met on Wednesday with the Russian leader in the Kremlin.
“The important thing is that this meeting be successful and productive,” he emphasized.
Regarding a future meeting between both leaders and the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also put on the table by Witkoff in the Kremlin.
“The Russian side left that possibility entirely without comment,” explained Ushakov, who described Trump’s emissary’s meeting with Putin as “constructive.”
Added: “I believe both parties can feel satisfied with the outcome of the conversation.”
Trump, who has held six phone conversations with Putin since the beginning of the year, had said the day before that there were “many possibilities” that the meeting would take place “very soon”.
Putin has not met with a U.S. leader since the summit held with Joe Biden in June 2021 in Geneva, while he last saw Trump in June 2019, a meeting held in Helsinki.
