The Trump administration is forcing the closure of 270 truck-driving schools accused of improperly issuing commercial driver’s licenses, according to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
Duffy said 110 schools were shut down today after authorities identified around 5,000 violations related to English-language proficiency. Another 160 schools are being closed over issues including inadequate facilities and unlicensed instructors.
One school reportedly told inspectors that its “classroom” was a school bus parked in the backyard.
Duffy also said that 10 skills evaluators had issued more than 2,000 commercial driver’s licenses to people who allegedly could not speak English.
