Washington.- The president of the United States, Donald Trump, predicted this Sunday that “unfortunately” there will be more American casualties in the war with Iran, after three of his country’s military personnel died in the operation to overthrow the Islamic Republic.

The Republican added that “regrettably, there will likely be more” before the conclusion of Operation Epic Fury, which began on Saturday and which, according to the US president himself, could last for four weeks. However, he promised that he will do everything possible to avoid new casualties and assured that the United States “will avenge their deaths and deal the harshest blow to the terrorists” responsible. Trump, who campaigned in 2024 on a promise to keep the United States out of prolonged wars abroad, announced the start of attacks against Iran early Saturday morning and admitted that there could be American deaths. The U.S. Army Central Command (Centcom) announced this Sunday that at least three soldiers have died and five others have been seriously injured. The United States and Israel launched a series of joint attacks against Iran on Saturday, in which the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in power since 1989, and a large part of the military leadership of the Islamic Republic were killed. Iran has vowed to avenge the death of Jameneí and, so far, has attacked Israel, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, among other allies of the United States, where this country maintains military bases. The Democratic opposition denounces not having been previously informed of the attack and accuses the Government of having initiated a covert war without the authorization of Congress, which has the power to approve a military intervention abroad.
