U.S. President Donald Trump announced this Friday the date on which he will hold a meeting with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, after months of threats, tensions and differences that strained relations between both governments, and which achieved a point of calm after a phone call between the two leaders this week.
“I look forward to meeting with Gustavo
Petro, President of Colombia, at the White House during the first week of February,” Trump expressed through
Truth Social, where he stated he was “sure” that this
meeting “will be very beneficial for Colombia and the U.S.”
The White House head remarked that a central theme in that meeting will be the need to “ban the entry of cocaine and other drugs into the U.S.”, alluding to his anti-drug policy, in which he has pointed to Colombia as one of the countries that exports the most drugs to the United States.
