President Donald Trump criticized Canada on Wednesday, accusing the country of allowing “millions and millions of people” to enter without proper controls and warning that the situation would “end very badly.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Canada was “destroying itself” and argued that the problems could soon become “too big to handle.” He also blamed what he described as a “liberal takeover” and pointed to the country’s unemployment rate.
Trump’s comments come as trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa continue to escalate. The United States and Canada remain involved in a trade dispute after negotiations broke down in August. The U.S. has imposed tariffs on Canadian goods, while Ottawa has announced retaliatory measures.
The president has repeatedly pushed the idea of Canada becoming the 51st U.S. state, while Ottawa has sought to strengthen its economic ties with other partners amid the dispute.
