Uribe Turbay will be mourned in the same hall of the Capitol where his grandparents were honored

Bogotá.- The senator and Colombian presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, who died this Monday, 64 days after being seriously injured in an attack, will be watched from this afternoon in the National Capitol, in the same hall where the funeral honors of his maternal grandparents were held.
The coffin of Uribe Turbay, 39 years old and a senator of the right-wing Democratic Center party, will remain in a vigil in the Elliptical Hall of the Capitol from 4:00 p.m. local time today (9:00 p.m. GMT) until noon on Wednesday when it will be moved to the Primate Cathedral of Colombia for the funeral.
“The Elliptical Hall of the National Capitol will be the space in which both corporations, along with the Colombian people, will be able to express their respect, gratitude, and farewell to Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, recognizing his legacy and dedication,” stated the boards of directors of the Senate and the House of Representatives in a statement.
The wake today will be for family and friends only, and it will be open to the public on Tuesday morning, the information added.
In the Elíptico Hall, tributes were paid to his grandfather, former President Julio César Turbay (1978-1982), who died on September 13, 2005, at the age of 89, and last month to his grandmother, Nydia Quintero, who died on June 30 of this year at 93.
‘Doña Nydia’, as she was affectionately called by Colombians, was not a politician but was veiled with military honors in the Capitol as recognition of her social work. With the creation of the Solidarity for Colombia Foundation to help the poorest, she transcended the ceremonial role of first lady.
His grandmother was also his mother because she took care of him after Diana Turbay Quintero, daughter of Quintero and Miguel’s mother, was murdered on January 25, 1991, by drug traffickers from the Medellín cartel who had kidnapped her in August 1990 and reacted to a rescue attempt.
Diana Turbay, a journalist by profession, was mourned at the Bogota Council, but like her parents and her son, her funeral mass was celebrated at the Primada Cathedral.

In the case of Miguel Uribe Turbay, the mass will be officiated on Wednesday by the Cardinal Primate of Colombia and Archbishop of Bogotá, Luis José Rueda. Colombian President Gustavo Petro lamented the death of Uribe Turbay, who was one of the most severe critics of his government, but has not declared days of mourning as several mayors of the country did in their cities. The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, decreed three days of mourning which he said he hopes will be “of reflection and unity” for the capital and the country, and the same was done by those of other cities such as Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga.#Most read
