Mexico City.- Following the decision to revoke the visa of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), the United States Embassy in Mexico stated this Saturday that its government “will cancel any visa when there are reasons to do so, regardless of who the holder is.”
“Our message is clear and consistent. The United States will cancel any visa when there are reasons to do so, regardless of who the holder is, where they live, or what their political opinions are. Visas are a privilege, not a right,” noted the diplomatic mission in a message on social media.
The message was accompanied by a video published on February 16th in which U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio appears.
“I have said it repeatedly. I don’t know why it is so difficult for some to understand. No one has a right to a visa. If you enter our country as a visitor and engage in activities against the national interests of the United States, we will revoke your visa,” Rubio expressed in the document.
Last Thursday, through a letter addressed to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán reported that the government of that country revoked his visa to enter its territory.

In a letter dated August 13 in Teapa, Tabasco, López Beltrán asserted that the decision was made by the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and by Undersecretary Christopher Landau.
On Friday, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, accused the United States government of engaging in a form of political “interference” following the cancellation of López Beltrán’s visa, a decision she attributed to “essentially” political motives.
While this Saturday, José Ramiro López Obrador, brother of former Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, pointed out that the United States’ decision to cancel the visa of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán is a political matter with which the government of that country seeks to discredit the former president of Mexico.
