Man survives lightning strike on his way to the dentist: “There are no burns”

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A Staten Island man identified as Thomas Fahmy was struck by lightning while on his way to a dentist appointment, an experience he described as both painful and completely unexpected.

Fahmy said that immediately after the lightning strike, he felt unusual sensations throughout his body, including tingling, numbness and intense pain, along with what he described as a burning sensation.

“Once the lightning hit me, the initial sensations I felt throughout my body were completely unprecedented: tingling, numbness, pain. I just felt this burning sensation,” Fahmy said.

Despite the intensity of the experience, Fahmy said multiple medical examinations found no burns on his body.

“There are no burns. I had multiple body examinations, no burns whatsoever,” he said.

Fahmy said the experience left him deeply grateful to be alive. He attended church on Sunday to give thanks to God for what he considers another opportunity at life.

“I went to church on Sunday to say thank you, God,” he said.

His survival comes after an extraordinary encounter with one of nature’s most powerful forces, which left him shaken but, remarkably, without visible burns.
