Firefighters in Cali, Colombia, are responding to the south of the city, where several people are reportedly trapped under rubble after a building collapsed following the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the country this Monday.
The earthquake, centered near San José del Palmar, Chocó, was felt across several regions of Colombia. In Manizales, the dome of the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica also collapsed following the seismic movement, while authorities in Chocó reported injuries and damage to buildings in Quibdó.
Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella said he had assumed direct leadership of the emergency response in San José del Palmar and ordered the installation of a Unified Command Post to coordinate the response to the damage and victims. Emergency teams continue assessing the situation and responding to reports of people affected by the earthquake.
