Russia’s Defense Ministry released footage it said shows Russian forces taking control of Malaya Volchya in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region as fighting continues in the area.
According to the ministry, the assault began with Russian forces targeting Ukrainian drones in the area. Russian artillery and drone units then carried out strikes against Ukrainian troops who, according to the ministry, were sheltering inside damaged buildings.
After securing positions in the settlement, Russian troops moved through the area and cleared the remaining buildings, the ministry said.
The Russian military said the Sever, or North, Group of Forces continues to advance on several fronts in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions and expand what it describes as its external control zone.
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on September 17 that Malaya Volchya had come under the control of Russian forces. The claim has not been independently verified in the available reporting.
