A dramatic video captured the moment buildings appeared to collapse in Cali, Colombia, during the powerful earthquake that shook the country on Monday morning.
The person recording the footage described the scene as “the most horrible thing in the world” while pointing the camera toward the city and saying: “Look at what the city looks like with that earthquake.” The images show the impact of the intense shaking as residents faced the emergency in the middle of the morning.
The earthquake, initially reported at 7.4 magnitude, was centered near San José del Palmar, in the department of Chocó, and was felt across several regions of Colombia. Reports indicated damage in cities including Cali, Manizales and Pereira, with multiple buildings damaged or collapsed.
In Manizales, the earthquake caused the collapse of part of the dome of the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica, while authorities in Chocó reported injuries and significant damage to buildings in Quibdó. Emergency crews were deployed in affected areas to assess the damage and respond to reports of people trapped or injured.
