BOSTON. – The Boston Red Sox announced this Monday the contract extension of Cuban reliever Aroldis Chapman, who will remain with the team for the 2026 season in exchange for US$13.3 million, with a mutual option included for 2027.

Chapman confessed that, although he could have obtained a more lucrative contract in free agency, his desire to continue in Boston weighed more:“When you identify players who can be cornerstones of sustained success, you have to act to keep them close. We feel we are building something special”.
In the press conference held at Fenway Park, several of his teammates and coaches accompanied him to celebrate the agreement. His father, Juan Alberto Chapman Benett, was also present, an emotional detail for the pitcher who defected from Cuba in 2009 and who today has 362 saves in 16 seasons in Major League Baseball, ranking 13th of all time. The Puerto Rican leader Alex Cora praised both his sporting impact and his leadership:“Yes, one thinks about that, but I wanted to stay here. The chemistry with my teammates, the support from the staff and the unity in the clubhouse made the decision easy”.
“What he has done on the field is amazing, but also what he brings in preparation and in the clubhouse. He has been great for us”.
