Domínguez, Vientos and Machado lead power day; Núñez and Cruz decide victories
SANTO DOMINGO. – A standout offensive day marked the action in the Major Leagues, with several Dominican and Latino players shining with the bat, led by Jasson Domínguez, who led the victory of the New York Yankees.
Domínguez hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, in addition to adding a run-scoring single and a double, to drive in three runs in the 11-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The New York team continues in great form, with 13 wins in their last 15 games.
In Anaheim, Mark Vientos was the offensive figure for the New York Mets by hitting two home runs and driving in four runs in the 5-1 victory. In that game, Juan Soto went hitless in five at-bats.
For their part, Manny Machado and Miguel Andújar also hit the ball out of the park to guide the San Diego Padres to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
In Colorado, Jorge Mateo contributed a home run and two RBIs in the Atlanta Braves’ 11-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
In close games, Nasim Núñez was key with two RBI singles in the Washington Nationals’ 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, avoiding the sweep in the series.
Meanwhile, in Pittsburgh, Oneil Cruz hit the decisive hit in the eighth inning to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, completing the home sweep.
The day also saw the defeat of the Toronto Blue Jays against Minnesota, despite the offensive contributions of Jesús Sánchez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. Likewise, the Dominican Luis Castillo took the loss in the game in which the Seattle Mariners fell to Kansas City.
Collective action reaffirms the prominence of Latin American players on a day filled with hits and decisive moments in the Major Leagues.
