SANTIAGO.– With another solid performance by Óscar De la Cruz from the mound and a decisive home run by Leody Taveras, the Águilas Cibaeñas defeated the Leones del Escogido 2-1 on Thursday night, in a game corresponding to the Round Robin, held at the Cibao stadium.

The triumph allowed the Eagles to place their record at 5-5, getting closer to two games behind the Leones, leaders of the round robin with a record of 7-3, and also meant the second defeat inflicted by the yellows on the melenudos in this phase. For the Aguiluchos it was their second home victory, where they have a 2-4 record, while as visitors they show a positive record of 3-1. The victory went to “Oscar De la Cruz (2-0)”, while “José Urquidy (0-2)” took the loss and “Burch Smith” earned the “number three save”. De la Cruz opened for the squad managed by Luis “Pipe” Urueta and once again showed dominance during six scoreless innings, allowing five hits, without giving up walks and striking out four batters. By the Escogido, Raimel Tapia led the attack with a home run and a single, while Junior Lake, Bryan De la Cruz and Franmil “Trancha” Cordero contributed two hits each, and José Marmolejos added a single. The Eagles took the lead in the fourth inning by scoring their two runs. Leody Taveras opened the inning with a home run, followed by a single by Geraldo Perdomo, who advanced to second on a balk and later scored on a run-scoring single by Cristhian Adames. The Lions scored in the eighth inning with a solo home run by Raimel Tapia, which set the final score at 2-1.
