Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Reds keep their postseason aspirations alive after defeating the Chicago Cubs 7-4 this Friday at Great American Ball Park, in a game where Elly De La Cruz and Spencer Steer shone with consecutive home runs.
Steer, with two home runs on the night, put the Reds ahead in the sixth inning, immediately before De La Cruz ended a 43-game streak without hitting a home run, both adding their twentieth hit of the season. In total, Cincinnati hit five home runs, their highest figure in a game this season, with contributions also from “Miguel Andújar” and “Matt McLain”.
The victory was the third in a row for the Reds (78-76), who began the day tied with the Diamondbacks and two games behind the Mets in the fight for the last Wild Card in the National League.
Starting pitcher Nick Lodolo pitched 4.2 innings with four earned runs, while the bullpen secured the victory after Steer and De La Cruz’s offensive plays.
