Framber Valdez shines and Tigres come back to beat the Bravos

ATLANTA. – Dominican Framber Valdez pitched a solid quality start and the Detroit Tigers reacted offensively to defeat the Atlanta Braves 5-2, thus avoiding the sweep in the three-game series.

Valdez worked for six innings in which he allowed just two runs, keeping his team in the game while the offense found a way to respond. Detroit rallied in the eighth inning, when Kerry Carpenter led off with a triple against Dominican reliever Joel Payamps. Then, a double by Matt Vierling tied the score, setting the stage for Venezuelan Gleyber Torres to drive in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly. The Tigers extended the lead in the ninth inning with two more runs, taking advantage of the rival pitching’s lack of control and defensive errors. Dominican Wenceel Pérez scored one of the runs after getting on base with a walk, while a double by Dillon Dingler drove in another. In relief, Drew Anderson was credited with the win after pitching two scoreless innings, and Kyle Finnegan closed out the game to earn his first save of the season. With the victory, Detroit evened its record at 16-16, showing the ability to react after coming from behind in a key game against Atlanta.
