CLEVELAND. The Cleveland Guardians were dealt a heavy blow with the confirmation that their main offensive star, Dominican José Ramírez, will be out of action for five to seven weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured hamate bone in his left hand.

The surgical intervention was successfully performed by specialist Thomas Graham in Pennsylvania, and the organization reported that the procedure went without complications. Now the third baseman will begin his recovery process with the hope of returning to the lineup before the end of the regular season.
Ramírez suffered the injury during last Saturday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. The veteran infielder felt discomfort after taking a swing in the fifth inning, but tried to remain in the game to help his team secure the victory.
Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt highlighted the determination shown by the star player despite the pain.
“He wanted to return to the field and help the team. He even tried to continue playing defense, but he couldn’t properly hold the glove,” the manager explained.

Ramírez’s absence represents a significant loss for the Guardians. The Dominican had participated in all 72 of the team’s games during the current campaign, remaining one of the organization’s most consistent and productive players.
To cover his absence, Cleveland activated the Venezuelan Gabriel Arias, who returned after a long stint on the injured list. Additionally, the club made adjustments to its 40-man roster to maintain depth in the infield.
Ramírez continues to be one of the main Latin American figures in the Major Leagues and a fundamental piece in the Guardians’ aspirations to remain in the fight for the playoffs.
As his recovery progresses, the organization is confident that the Dominican player will be able to return fully recovered during the final stretch of the season and once again contribute his leadership both on and off the field.
