José Ramírez will not play in the All-Star Game; Isaac Paredes will take his place

CLEVELAND – Dominican star third baseman José Ramírez will not participate in the 2025 Major League All-Star Game, scheduled for next Tuesday at Truist Park in Atlanta. MLB announced this Wednesday, confirming that Mexican Isaac Paredes of the Houston Astros will take his place on the American League roster.

Ramírez, 32, was chosen as the starting third baseman for the young circuit, thus achieving his seventh selection to the Mid-Season Classic and the fourth as a starter (2017, 2018, 2024 and now in 2025). However, after completing the first half of the season with the Guardians, he has decided to prioritize his physical recovery and focus on tackling the final stretch of the campaign with strength. The Dominican has once again been a key piece in Cleveland’s offense. In 87 games played, he presents a solid offensive line of .299/.364/.503, with 16 home runs, 44 RBIs, 17 doubles, 24 stolen bases and just 41 strikeouts. Defensively, he has also shined, recording 2 Outs Above Average, tying for sixth place among all MLB third basemen. On June 26th, Ramírez was hit by a pitch on his right wrist by pitcher Kevin Gausman (Toronto), which forced him to miss a game. Although he returned to action shortly after, he had a brief offensive slump before returning to his usual rhythm. In his last five games, he has accumulated six hits in 18 at-bats, including three home runs and six RBIs. With Ramírez’s departure, Isaac Paredes receives his first All-Star Game call-up. The player from Sonora has been a stable figure for the Astros, establishing himself as one of the best third basemen of the 2025 season in the American League. The 2025 All-Star Game will be held next Tuesday, July 15th in Atlanta.
