SEATTLE. The Seattle Mariners placed Dominican outfielder Julio Rodríguez on the seven-day concussion protocol injured list this Friday, following the hard blow he received to the head during Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The incident occurred when Rodríguez was running from first to third base following a ground ball by Dominic Canzone. In an attempt to complete a double play, first baseman Nolan Schanuel made a throw that struck the back of the star Dominican outfielder’s helmet directly.
Although Rodríguez managed to reach the dugout and remained briefly in the game after being evaluated by manager Dan Wilson and athletic trainer Kyle Torgerson, he subsequently left the field after the second inning and did not return to the game.
After performing the corresponding medical evaluations, the Mariners decided to place him on the seven-day concussion injured list, a preventive measure established by Major League Baseball for this type of injury.

To take his place on the roster, Seattle promoted utility player Miles Mastrobuoni from Triple-A Tacoma, while right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell, who is suffering from a right shoulder strain, was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Rodríguez’s absence represents a significant loss for the Mariners, who will now monitor the Dominican’s progress before determining when he can return to the lineup.
